The perfect wedding

What is the perfect wedding! Is it quite simple to explain because it is a wedding that is perfect for the bride and groom – the personal designed wedding, where the bride and groom emphasize their individual wishes in stead of leaning towards the old wedding traditions.

In the movies it looks very easy to get married and the planning like so. But getting married is not as easy as the movies want you to believe! And to get married abroad needs even more planning and organizing. Planning a romantic and perfect wedding is a tedious job. Several important details and considerations are taken into account for both the bride and groom.

The wedding budget

One of the primary tasks in the wedding preparations is the wedding budget. The question of how much money is available or how much money do you intent or want to spend and who is paying the bill for the romantic wedding are the important questions in setting the budget.

Here it is also important to take into consideration if the wedding is going to take place this year, next year or first in two years time. Prices for the wedding will change if you are planning to hold it several years down the road!

Wedding planner

Hiring a professional or even international wedding planner is practical for busy working couples that have less time to spare for the wedding planning or preparations or if you just want to be 100 percent sure that everything is going to plan. If the budget is tight which it is very often in these times of crises, there are also some professional wedding planners who work by the hour. An outsider’s perspective is beneficial to both the bride and the groom and often they will advice you or come with very good ideas. During their professional experience the wedding organizer also knows what is feasible and advisable.
Once the budget is set and agreed, the next step in planning your dream day is creating the timetable of schedules. The important factors to consider include honeymoon, work schedules, holidays and family occasions, and day of the week, because your wedding does not necessary have to be during the weekend.

The wedding ring

In the good old days, choosing the wedding ring and announcement to family, relatives and friends are coming next. For many bride and groom it takes quite some time to choose the wedding ring – it is very important for both. They have to look beautiful and at the same time they have to be practical. For many wedding couples the choice goes from a plain gold ring to a diamond ring – and everything in between.
The contemporary times suggest that couples choose the beautiful wedding ring together, so take your time and get started to look well before your special day.

Wedding proposal and announcement

Announcements may come formally or informally – it varies from country and to wedding traditions. Traditions though recommend that the groom’s mother take the initiative to communicate with the bride’s mother. Usually, a dinner is set up for the families of both parties to get acquainted. This will be helpful in the following days of the preparations. In some countries, newly engaged couples send an official announcement to local newspaper or magazine.

The wedding guests – the guest list

After making the coming wedding known to all, the second essential is the very important but difficult guest list. This list usually affects several aspects of the wedding – specially the budget and the size of the wedding party. Dividing the guest list into five categories will better sort out the list: a) bride’s list; b) the groom’s; c) couple’s common friends; d) groom’s parents’ list and; e) bride’s parents’ list. Alongside the list is the couple’s decision on special invitation card designs and packages. These details match the over-all tone of the wedding. Proofreading of the invitation cards is a very important task however tiresome it may be.

The wedding ceremony

The wedding ceremony and reception music, wedding flowers will set the mood of the wedding. Like the wedding invitation, these things should match together to express the style and theme of the wedding. The same with the wedding gowns, bridesmaids’ dresses, and the groom’s attire—they are usually decided based on the wedding theme.

The wedding photography

The wedding photographs and videos should not be forgotten for they will immortalize that one memorable and valuable once-in-a-lifetime moment. Many wedding planners suggest taking the formal shots a week before the wedding to avoid stress. Do never relay on your wedding guests taking all your beautiful wedding pictures with their own cameras – it normally goes wrong!
Set in the delightful surroundings, yet convenient for a local church, the castle grounds and sunken garden always provide a unique and picturesque backdrop for your wedding photographs, which are, of course the permanent reminder of a very special day.

Then when almost everything is done and decided, the next step is the rehearsal—reducing the risk of ceremony disappointments. Rehearsal parties immediately follow the rehearsal. This is a chance to mingle with family and friends.

The wedding ceremony

The ceremony site sets the tone of the wedding. Traditional weddings are celebrated in church; however, there are many non-traditional that have emerged since the 60’s and 70’s. Beach weddings, garden weddings or castle weddings are just a few example of the latter one. However the castle wedding you can combine with a traditional church ceremony.

The wedding location and reception

Last but not the least is the reception and catering. Included are the place, the food, and the traditional wedding cake. The location of the wedding is rather important. Is it going to be a local wedding or is it going to be a wedding abroad? More and more wedding couples are choosing a smaller intimate wedding abroad where they just invite their closest family and friends. To enhance the festivities they are holding the wedding over a weekend or even 3 to 5 days. One of the preferred wedding locations is a castle wedding where the bride and groom get exclusivity for their special day or days. In France you will find some pretty castles as if they were made for princesses and beautiful weddings and in addition you will find the weather better and more stable than in the UK or Scotland.

Other side events organized during the wedding planning are stud party and wedding shower. This is also one of the exciting parts in wedding traditions.

Castle Visit for a weekend

I was sitting here, thinking what it would be like to be King of a Castle for a day, well Queen actually, but somehow King just seems to sound better. Having visited a Castle in the Lorraine region of France, it was called Hâttonchatel Château. Magnificent Castle

Castle stay

I so wished that the visit could have been a stay, oh why didn’t I stay. I roamed around the gardens in complete bewilderment. I stood back under a large oak tree which serviced my needs as shade to admire this magnificent castle in all its entirety and original glory. mystic valley

I could see Lorraine region of France, the turrets stretching towards the bright blue sky and I imagined a damsel inside awaiting a young handsome knight to come and set her free. I approached such a grand entrance, this door for sure must have been made for giants! As I stepped inside, and in my minds eye, were pictures, and oh if only these old walls could talk, what tales would they tell about this fairyland castle of which I had a become a small part of, albeit on borrowed time. I was stepping back in time, allowing myself to dream. My thoughts were broken by the faint sound of crackling, the fire was lit in the grand hall, it was so inviting. I sat by it´s side and made images in it´s flames, again wondering what adventures this great place had seen and heard.

Beautiful Castle accommodation

I found myself touching the stones as I was lead up the castle turret, its winding staircase, so authentic, I was inside a dream. I walked into one of the now suites, Bridal Suite

how exquisite it all was, originality kept and restored with that touch of being brought into this Millennium, the spaciousness, a kind of which I hadn’t seen, the décor sumptuous and space leads me to more space, through a connecting door, still in the upper part of the castle in, this astonishing bedroom has its own en suite bathroom and sitting room. I sat in a chair and looked out over of the breathtaking valley below, I´m speechless, again my imagination wanders.

I have to return, I have to stay, I have to live out my dream and be King of a Castle for a day.

My big fat Greek wedding?

Don’t think so try a bit of this and get yourself to Tenerife…………

Stunning gazebo wedding in Tenerife, The Canary Islands, Spain

wedding ceremony abroad

I think, it´s an unknown fact that a wedding in paradise can exist without travelling for days on end and without incurring a huge hole in ones pocket!

Ever been invited to a wedding knowing that you could only dream about attending? Sadly you decline because of cost, distance and time. Recently I received a wedding invitation to attend a wedding blessing in Tenerife.

The initial wedding ceremony took place at the local registry office. Sound plain and simple? The best was yet to come! Bags packed and ready, the mini bus waiting, off to the airport and on our way to sunny Tenerife. Leaving behind the freezing cold, drizzling drab weather.

Church ceremony, wedding ceremony

warm and friendly welcome at the hotel

We checked into the most quaint resort, part of the The Ritz Resorts group, situated in Amarilla Golf in the South of Tenerife. People say you can´t change a first impression, here, you really wouldn´t want to.  We were greeted with a warm and friendly welcome and an efficiency second to none by the Tenerife hosts and the wedding planner at this charming Canarian resort.

All the wedding party had been accommodated on site, 50 in total. The wedding accommodation in Tenerife was surprisingly cheap and yet consisted of self catering apartments, the standard of which was incredible. The resort staff in Tenerife can´t do enough for you and cater for your every need. Totally uninterrupted paradise.

The Ritz Resort hosts with their invaluable advice and experience had arranged and carried out every wish, instruction and minor wedding detail as instructed by the bride and groom.

The wedding ceremony

The local Priest in Tenerife, is of Irish origin, so no language barriers. He carried out the wedding ceremony by the pool and the whole ambiance was that of a fairytale wedding. The bridesmaids with their fresh flower bouquets. Soft music that floated on the Atlantic breeze, tall palm trees swaying gently and in the not too far distance, the Atlantic Ocean. There is something so special about this wedding abroad.

Canarian Food

What a sight for sore eyes! Canarian potatoes, platters filled with mixtures of roast meats and poultry, whole suckling pigs, poached salmons and a huge king prawn fountain. All being washed down with fine Spanish wines and champagne. The wedding cake seemed to stand in its own kingdom almost as though you were expected to pay homage to it! 8 tiers in all, it swirled around like steps leading up to a turret in a castle, sheer decadence. Made at the local Tenerife bakery, another small detail taken care of by the Tenerife wedding planner with a huge, “knock on effect”.

Beautiful wedding venue in Tenerife

To get married in Tenerife is a lifetime experience

When someone or something touches you, and it has an everlasting effect on you, you have to let people know, spread the word. My advise is, if you ever get the chance to attend a wedding at this Ritz Resort in Tenerife, or certainly, if you are thinking of getting married abroad, having a ceremony of a wedding blessing, or renewal of your wedding vows abroad, don´t hesitate to get in contact with these proffessional wedding advisors who truelly are helpful and friendly people who make your wedding dreams a reality, cater for all your wedding needs and will ensure that you will have that truelly unforgetable once in a lifetime experience.

We all have stories to tell and here’s one of mine, dedicated to both of my sisters,  I Love  you Both

Pleased to meet you I am Larly the youngest of three sisters, the middle one is Charley and the eldest is Shelly. My two sisters got married within 3 months of each other and this is how it all went;

First Wedding

Shelley and Jerry
Shelly, the eldest made her wedding announcement first and decides to get married in the UK.  The wedding venue is in a hotel which is close by. I don’t know why, but   she took all the stress upon herself and became her own wedding planner, organiser and decision maker from start to finish and believe you me, it got very stressful at times! Her first big decision was pink!   Basically anywhere she could add a touch of pink got splashed! It all actually came together really well and lucked quite delicious! I hope you’re now getting some sort of imaginary picture. She had an exquisite long white wedding gown, the edging of which matched her wedding veil which purely by coincidence was trimmed in pink glittery bits and sequins, it was stunning! I have to skip over ever major and minor details and highlight the main wedding event.

On her Big Day……wedding day!

Everyone was suited and booted, the hairdresser came and did wonders with our hair and make up. The wedding bouquets were delivered with the relative button holes and corsages. The clock was ticking and the wedding cars arrived, she had 2 white Rolls Royce trimmed with pink ribbon, pink and white carnations hung delicately from the door handles and a small flower arrangement had been placed in the rear window. It was so exiting, all the neighbours and other on lookers had gathered by the roadside for a glimpse of the bride and wedding party.

La Caleta church wedding

Church wedding.

We were greeted by the vicar, he had a quite word with my sister, I think he was assuring her that all was well and calming any last minute wedding nerves. As we walked down the aisle, thoughts of tripping over or doing something wrong crept into my mind, I concentrated on where I was going as every eye in the church was watching us. I genuinely fought back tears as they took their wedding vows, it was very emotional.

All too soon or so it seamed the photographs had been taken and we were at the hotel. We gathered in the main bar of the hotel and were served with buck fizz. It suddenly dawned on me there were many more people here or had my eyes deceived me in the church, I obviously didn’t know everyone that Shelly and Jerry had invited, then, I saw them, another wedding couple!
How could this be I thought, what a nightmare and how do you separate guests, I could see my sister had just realised too and her and Jerry looked totally bewildered,  just then a loud voice came over the intercom system asking all the wedding guests from our wedding party to go to the banqueting hall number 2! To be honest I felt like I was in a farm, you know like separating cattle, anyway we eventually found our way.
I could hear the undercurrent discussion of what had just taken place and thank goodness it seemed to be shortly forgotten once the food came. The menu they chose was acceptably nice, the main course was a little on the cold side and I began to think about the other wedding and wondered if this was the reason. The speeches went well and daytime just seemed to drift into the evening, which brought even more guests to the wedding.
This was not much fun to begin with as the wedding next door had their evening guests arriving too and everyone seemed to be mingling between the two banqueting halls until they saw a familiar face.  I decided to post myself at the door and ask arriving guests if they were attending our wedding or not, after an hour or so I gave up and decided to go and unwind and enjoy the party which went on until around 1 a.m.

Its not really funny although we laugh about it now as we had to rescue Grandpa and Uncle Ron from the wedding next door, poor things got lost on the way back from the loo, it was some time before we discovered them missing but one knew where to find them, I thought they may have realised when they were charged for drinks next door as Shelley and Jerry had arranged a free bar. Perhaps they went in search of some young hot stuff!!

Some of the guests had made reservations at the hotel so as not to worry about drinking and driving, good idea! As for the rest of us we waited in a long queue for a taxi, the nightclubs were finishing too so we waited and waited…..

I tell you it was a memorable wedding day!

Second Wedding in a Castle

A place Where Dreams are Made

A place Where Dreams are Made

Charley & Dave
Charley didn’t wait too long and made her announcement. Quite a different scenario from Shelly, Charley’s only gone and got herself a castle wedding in France and a wedding organiser!

She really did her homework. I would have no idea how to get married in France. For instance, did you know, according to French law you have to be resident in France for 31 days in order to get married there, I didn’t but don’t be put off, read on! Charley and Dave got married in the registry office in our village, then, they had The Wedding Blessing!

We had a short flight from the UK into Luxembourg airport. It took us a little over an hour, firstly by motorway then country roads to reach our destination. As we approached the castle, our arrival was expected and the gates where already open.  WOW there it stood in all its glory, this magnificent historical castle. Honestly I stood there with my mouth open looking down at the breath taking valleys adorned by the beautiful countryside. This was to be our family home for the next five days.

My sisters beautiful Castle wedding

We were escorted to our rooms, I couldn’t wait. This was great! Time to explore, relax, be waited on and have a few tasters of some fine French Wines with no worries about driving ahhhh!

The wedding party in total was small, immediate family and a few close friends who had paid for their airfares and also accommodation, clever idea and very cost effective! Charley, Dave and the wedding organiser had co-ordinated everything, it was all planned to a faultless perfection.

Her beautiful Castle wedding day

On the morning of the wedding, we gathered in the great hall of the stunning castle, it wasn’t cold but there was a big fire burning in the fireplace. We had a buffet type continental breakfast, which consisted of an assortment of mouth watering delights. It was time to get ready. The wedding organiser had arranged a French hairdresser to arrange our hair. She was really sweet and did five hair do´s in no time at all. I helped Charley with her dress and veil, the suite she had was huge, a bed to die for and her own private sitting room which formed part of the tower with views over the Seine Valley and the most beautiful bathroom. I thought my suite was good but the Bridal Suite was something else, I was truly amazed. The Bridal Suite was in the tower of the Castle and had its own bathroom and lounge or sitting room.

I watched Charley come down the spiral staircase of the tower, a princess in her castle. We took our places behind her and went out of the castle and into the grounds. Every head turned to watch and a small band played here comes the bride. The wedding blessing was beautiful. Nothing about this ceremony was rushed or misunderstood. We threw lots of confetti adding even more colour to this wonderland setting.

Lovely wedding pictures

Lots of wedding pictures were taken and we were served champagne and canopies. There was no conception of time and one thing just flowed into another. We had a fabulous sit down meal within the castle, six courses, no rush, no fuss and no intruders! What a feeling of total, undisturbed relaxation. No fear of losing Grandpa and Uncle Ron this time! Later we had plenty to drink and danced the night away until we were all fit to drop!

It was great, we got up the following day and had a leisurely brunch, I could really get used to this! We spent the day in the French castle and its grounds. What a surprise, the following day, Charley and Dave had arranged for us to go ballooning, if you have never had this experience Wow, do it!! With time running out, we just had to fit in visits to Metz which apparently they call the City of Light and then to Verdun to see where the great battle of Verdun took place in the first World War.

So there you have it, two weddings. Independently different but both wonderful. Where should I have my wedding, when someone asks me I will tell you, watch this space!!

Weddings in Paradise

Weddings in Paradise

Wedding venues

Living in this age of super technology, we all spend hours surfing the web. Whether its things we need or want, out of interest, browsing at things we can’t afford or things we believe we can only dream about.

It’s a twenty four seven compulsion that anyone with a computer has access to and this has to be the most used product in the World!

I have spent months looking at wedding venues, wedding menus, wedding cars, limousines, horse and carriage, bouquets and flowers, not to mention the wedding ceremony itself and the formal attire for the Bride, Groom, Bridesmaids and page boy.

Anyone sourcing this information, will, I am assure, be of the same opinion, it’s very “WEDDING TIME” time consuming!

Wedding locations in Europe

With the aid of my PC, I have been around the World in 80 hours! travelled through England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. I have also surfed in Thailand, America, Italy, France, Cyprus, Denmark,  Greece, Spain and the Caribbean. You name it, I’ve been there! Close to home, wedding venues on my doorstep and far, far away places with fairy tale castles, exotic surroundings and white sandy beaches with crystal clear seas.

How to get married in Tenerife, Spain

I don’t know the how’s, why’s or wherefores, but these clever computer technos had me hooked and linked into the hotel Ritz Resorts no matter what I seemed to be searching for within their engines, they had it all, kept popping up all over the place!
