Love,

for most of us, is a very personal concept. We believe that although what we feel is universal, it is at the same time customized specifically for us and towards the person that our love is aimed at. The truth is that the concept of love itself is relatively new — at least when looking at it as a part of human culture.

The first to give romantic love a name were the Greeks, calling it “Eros.” However, romantic love didn’t actually become a popular concept until the medieval ages. During this period of roughly 1,000 years, the concept of romantic love formulated and spread through European culture, but nevertheless was not yet considered to be necessary for marriage; only during the Victorian period did romantic love become a prerequisite for marrying someone.
Love is a wonderful thing :-)
So if not for love, for what reason did people marry? Originally, marriages were not by choice, but rather by arrangement or by capture. When men raided other villages, farms or castles, they would capture the women and take them as brides. Even more common were marriages formed in order to strengthen business relationships or to create political alliances.

Dowries were also strong motivators, but until the 5th century, the idea of loving someone and marrying them for this sole purpose was unheard of. Romantic love, which fully blossomed during the Victorian Era during the 19th century, has basically remained an important concept in western culture today. We have even gone a step further – the bride and groom want a destination wedding such as a romantic beach weddings in Tenerife, Spain.

The relationship between a man and woman

Nevertheless, the concept of the relationship between a man and woman has changed. Overlooking the whole gay marriage movement, the concept of marriage itself has begun to change. Nowadays many believe marriage to be a rather archaic concept, one that no longer fills a cultural void.

Tradition has in the past played a significant role in cultures all over the world. While in many parts of the world, tradition remains the main guiding light, in the most developed countries the importance of tradition has dwindled and the tradition of marriage, specifically, has begun to transform.

Peoples’ ideals have shifted and a culture that was once focused on family and togetherness now revolves around the concept of independence. The priority of human beings for centuries has been to begin a family — to procreate. That, I believe, is no longer the case — generally.

Are we focusing on ourselves

Most people — especially those living in an urban setting — have shifted their focus from the family ideal to a more egocentric way of Harmoni and lovethinking and of living. While during the Victorian Era, many found the idea of finding a lover and starting a family to care for as their sole purpose in life, many of today’s youth shudder at the idea.

If we look at this closely, we will notice a pattern: our culture is slowly cycling back to the days prior to the Medieval period; we are resorting back to the days when our focus was on ourselves. The main difference is that during those days of yonder, marriage between a man and woman brought with it many monetary and/or political gains. Today, marrying to get ahead in life is rare.

Because our culture focuses so much on independence and on self-improvement, many people prefer to make their fortune themselves rather than marry into it. Not to mention that the richest of the rich tend to carry a prenup in their back pocket, just in case.

Will you marry for happiness

If you aren’t going to marry for profit, then you will marry for happiness. This, however, brings another problem. The current dominant vRomantic Chateau wedding at Hattonchatel Chateau in Franceiew on marriage is that it leads to tension within the relationship, leading to a separation and much unhappiness. But we are often getting married again after a divorce – we are looking for happiness!

We love our freedom and tying the knot leaves us feeling tied down. If we look at the divorce rate, we will notice that this idea is not so farfetched. I honestly believe that marriage is becoming such a deterrent because people are becoming more and more afraid of divorce.

Divorce causes pain, misery, monetary loss and is seen as a significant setback to living a happy life. So, we are beginning to avoid the possibility of divorce by avoiding marriage altogether. This is not to say that we are boycotting relationships. We do and always will date — what passes for dating these days is rather sad, but I will try to refrain from going off on this tangent.

Romantic and exclusive Gazebo weddings in Tenerife, Spain

The main problem that I see with the way most of us are living our lives these days is that while we cherish our independence and prefer to focus on bettering ourselves as people, we have been exposed to romantic love and romantic places such as Clansani Venues in Tenerife where many wedding couples has booked their romantic wedding ceremony or tend to go for a romantic honeymoon. For all of you that have experienced that magic of falling in love, you will surely agree that there is no other feeling like it in the world.

Does our culture still focuses on romantic love

Our culture still focuses on romantic love and for this reason it is embedded in our minds. I don’t believe this is a bad thing — we ought to focus on love. Just imagine how it would be to declare your love and propose to your loved one in one of the beautiful wedding castles in France such as Hattonchâtel Château. The only issue is that many people get lost in their independence. They live alone for so long, that the idea of marriage and finding love seems to become an impossibility. These people tend to resort to saying: “marriage just isn’t for me.”

There isn’t a single thing about marriage itself that ought to deter anyone from getting married. All it is is a piece of paper and a promise. Those who resort to such line of thought rather not admit to themselves that they have lived alone for so long that they believe themselves to have become incapable of sharing their lives with another. Whether or not this is true, I cannot say for sure since I am not in this situation.

The wedding picture from FranceDo you avoid love

The one thing I can say is that love ought to remain cherished because it is the one concept in this world that remains untainted. As of now, our culture has resorted back to the days of pillaging — only that after we pick up a woman and use her, we don’t marry her; we send her on her way. Love can be a scary thing — or rather the loss of it can be.

Living in fear is no way to live. The concept of marriage fading doesn’t bother me as much as people avoiding love for the fear of being hurt or having to break a promise. You need a bit of pain and suffering in your life in order to experience joy and happiness.

Wedding venue ideas

Your fairytale dreams – your dream wedding will come true when you are holding your romantic wedding in the spectacular buildings and landscape of a castle.  Castles are very unusual and special, historic and romantic and who doesn’t want to imagine they are King and Queen on their special wedding day? But there are a few points to bear in mind when considering a magnificent castle wedding venue for your location of choice.

Beautiful wedding castles

On the upsides, there are a great many castles available for rent for wedding ceremonies and wedding receptions so finding one for a small or a lavish wedding should not be very difficult. To find the right castle with an ambiance and a stunning view is another question?
There are those that can host religious services as well as civil, those that are actually hotels so can provide luxurious wedding accommodation and others with sumptuous wedding catering facilities.
In order to celebrate your wedding night the most you have to make sure that the wedding castle has a beautiful and romantic bridal suite with en-suite bathroom. It will not be a night to remember if you have to spend your wedding night in a normal bedroom!

Hire a  private castle for your wedding

Private castles offer complete privacy for your wedding, which is probably why the likes of Celebrities as  Guy and Madonna, Katie Holmes, Kevin Jonas and Joey Fatone, Tom Cruise, Kings and Queens and other royalty and other famous couples in general chose a private chateau such as Château Hattonchâtel for their luxury wedding venues. Make sure that you hire the private wedding castle exclusively and so you and your wedding guests can enjoy and relax in the castle and its grounds for several days.

Idyllic wedding locations

The stunning castle landscape including the idyllic surrounding countryside, the usual long private driveways, the stunning architecture and the huge grounds all provide excellent backdrops for the romantic wedding photographs.
Should the weather not be on your side, even internally the grand halls and imposing staircases could be used. Decorating the entrance and formal rooms of the castle can be kept simple with white fabric and linen and beautiful flower arrangements as the features of the castle itself provide the best decoration.
You could even have a medieval themed wedding at a castle and dress in a period wedding dress and hire period entertainment such as jesters and sword fighters to complete the occasion.

Beautiful destination weddings in Europe

There are of course potential downsides to your wedding day at the castle – location generally being the largest. Most beautiful wedding castles are in France so for those bridal parties from the UK, Scotland or Wales, there will be the added expense of travelling.
You then need to find a castle that is quite accessible from major airports or train lines. It is best to visit your short list of locations before committing to one, so this will entail more travelling costs. A few castles offer you a free weekend trip to the castle in order to see the location and to find out if  a castle wedding suits you – the bride and groom. This is a very nice gesture and it shows that the company is serious.
If you chose to get married out side the peak season or may be during week days you will probably get a discount which helps to keep the wedding costs down.
Luxury castle weddings are also becoming more and more popular so you will need to book early to secure your favourite location. Make sure you check that the castle is licensed for weddings so that you can hold both the ceremony and reception in the same location.

Castle accommodation and other requirements

You will also want to find out if the castle helps with booking our hotel accommodation if there is not sufficient castle accommodation. Watch out for any requirements you may need to meet to have exclusive use of the castle during your stay, such as to fill out the castle accommodation or for your wedding guests to stay a minimum number of nights. Does the château offer special wedding packages or a free wedding planner like Château Hattonchâtel so that you can avoid having to organise church, caterers, florists, musicians etc.  from a distance?

Getting married in a castle

Castle wedding venues will provide a magical and historic location for you to start your new life as husband and wife. The bride will achieve her life long wedding dream of being a princess for her big wedding day and the unique wedding memories the castle will create will be treasured forever. Just make sure you do your research and find the French castle that is right for you and your wedding budget.

During this summer, Danish TV2 filmed “The celebrities at the Castle 2010” at Hattonchâtel Château in France. There were five Danish television-stars who stayed at this magnificent castle in the north of France: handball coach Anja Andersen, Actor Kim Bodnia, TV presenter Cristiane Schaumburg-Müller, music producer Remee from Hollywood and TV presenter Hans Pilgaard. Next time it could be English stars or American celebrities turn to perform at the private Castle – we will have to wait and see.

A unique Château with an amazing ambiance

The television program  started with showing the stars arriving at the  château – filming their start of their fairytale week as they walked through the enormous wooden castle gate. The doors closed behind them; they left their lives behind and entered the calm and unique world of the historic castle.
As they were escorted to their rooms, they walked up the grand stone spiral staircase that brought them to the second floor where they stayed in their magnificent suites with modern en-suite bathrooms.  Each Celebrity had their own specially decorated suite with beautiful flower arrangements.

The beautiful settings in France

After settling in and a good night sleep it was time for breakfast. It was not just any breakfast; they woke up to the smell of freshly baked bread from the local bakery.
When they went to the “lady’s room” for breakfast, there was a table with a basket of different kinds of breads, cheeses, and cold meats.
It was the start of their official day as “The Celebrities at the Castle”. As they started their activities, the TV2 crew filmed. The crew filmed from breakfast until bedtime during the week they spent in Hattonchâtel Château.
The Celebrities took walks around the massive garden inside the stone walls that were rebuilt by Belle Skinner just after WW I in 1919.  These celebrities could not get enough of the fairytale like castle that manages to isolate the outside world to give them a luxurious week of appetizing food and relaxation; even though, they were working, this place still managed to relax them.
At the end of the week, the celebrities were not ready to leave their spectacularly decorated suites, the savoury food, and most of all they could not bear to leave behind the breathtaking castle with the stunning views and its beautiful garden.

The series “The Celebrities at the Castle” will be shown on Danish’s TV2 in October 2010 over a period of five weeks. If you cannot watch the show, then come and make your own memories at this elegant castle in the north of France.

A romantic Castle stay

Hattonchâtel Château is a spectacular international castle for wedding celebrations where the brides & grooms are coming from all over Europe and they all have this in commend that they would love to get married at this hideaway castle, romantic weekends for 2, and a once-in-a-lifetime holiday location if you wish something special. Romantic Winter Weddings

There is no doubt that choosing a beautiful Winter Wedding is the cheaper option, with potential money to be saved on wedding venue hire and also guest accommodation, honeymoon bookings out of peak season, and the potential to exploit decorations already in place in your chosen wedding venue around the Christmas festive season!
Quite possibly you have dreamed of a romantic winter wedding full of snow, but if you live in many areas of the world, you know that no matter what date in the winter you schedule your wedding for, Mother Nature cannot guarantee that it will be a white wedding. However, there are many places in the world in which you can travel to for a snow filled winter wedding day. Destination weddings aren’t only reserved for tropical locations and warmer climates – you could have a destination winter wedding too.

Winter weddings abroad – Winter weddings in France

If you would like to say within Europe, there are plenty of ski and snow resort destinations and lodges. Most of them have wedding packages, group rates for your guests, and can “guarantee” snow for your big wedding day – even if it is man-made. Imagine how fun and romantic it could be to have your wedding reception in a log cabin setting, or in a luxurious French Castle with a roaring fire going, sipping French champagne, red wine or hot apple cider. After your romantic wedding your guests can enjoy skiing, snow tubing, snowboarding, ice skating or sleigh riding. Castle weddings and château weddings are becoming more and more popular – both spring weddings, summer weddings, autumn weddings and winter weddings. Now a days brides and grooms want to create their own individual wedding or unusual wedding.
You can look for resorts in countries such Norway, Sweden, Poland, Hungary, Italy and France which is one of the preferred wedding destination, partly because of the magnificent French cuisine. Here you will find beautiful Castles to get married in – often they have their own church where the priest conduct the religious ceremony.

Winter wedding dress

Winter weddings can be elegant and a spectacle that can bring you on a high note into the thoughts of spring. There are snow covered trees and beautiful scenery that can be incorporated into the winter wedding pictures, which can compliment one of the most important parts of the wedding – the stunning wedding dress and the wedding bouquet.

Beautiful winter wedding dresses & beautiful bridal gowns

Unique winter weddings also allow for the opportunity to be a bit different for both the bride and groom, on aspects like unique wedding dresses and wedding reception ideas. Cold weather means romantic log fires in a English Castle or a French Castle, warming up in four poster beds and such like!! You will love it.
Choosing fabulous winter wedding dresses does not have to be difficult. Usually, a thicker and luxurious wedding fabric will be used to create the dress, as opposed to the airy and light fabrics that are used through summer weddings. Velvet is a favourite fabric of designers wishing to create a winter wedding dress that can bring attention to the bride to be on her wedding day.

There are also many unique wedding accessories that can be chosen to complement the magnificent winter wedding dresses that are chosen through the wedding ceremony. Luxurious wedding shoes and fur lined capes can be used to keep warm throughout the cold season and allow you to have a luxurious and fairy tale-feel to the wedding pictures.

When choosing a winter wedding dress, keep in mind the following aspects – the winter wedding dress should convey the theme of the wedding and keep with the season. Therefore, luxurious trimmings and embellishments are a great way to create unique features within your winter wedding dress.

Unique Winter Wedding Ideas

Of course, if you are planning a luxury winter wedding near or far, do not forget to give your guests a winter wedding favor to commemorate your beautiful winter wedding. Some great ideas are snowflake bottle openers, snow globes, hot coca packets, picture frames, or crystal glasses or other crystal items. These will all be appreciated by your guests to remember such a wonderful wedding event.

Valentines Day – Legend, Myth or Truth

In England and France during the Middle Ages it was commonly believed to be the beginning of birds’ mating season on February 14th thus, the idea was borne that this should be the selected date whereby one could express love and romance to their partner. Although a further theory is that, dating back to the Roman era and the ancient fertility festival, known as the Feast of Lupercalia, also gave birth to this idea. The festival took place at the beginning of spring and was held to honor the Roman God of fertility. However, the most common belief of the legend for the Valentines celebration derives from a legendary priest. He was the Patron Saint of this legend and during the third century in Rome he performed secret marriages for young couples. Marriage was at this time outlawed by the Emperor who wanted to make all men into better soldiers. The priest was seized by this cruel and unforgiving Emperor, Claudius II, and was sentenced to death. Thus St. Valentine became immortal in the hearts of all young lovers and 14th February became the day to pay tribute to this great sacrifice of Saint Valentine.

Valentines Day – a day of celebration

For centuries this celebrated date has now become a unique day dedicated to the unconditional love between two mortals. The whole day is dedicated to those whom have had their hearts pierced by cupids arrow and express and indulge their undying love and affection from the most simplest form to the most extravagant lavish gifts. The need to shower ones partner with love on this day and fulfil the experience of demonstrating the extent of feeling is done with the sending of cards, gifts of love and especially red roses. It is a day of togetherness. A day of devoting time your loved one, candlelit dinners and unbroken dreamy gazes into each other eyes with romantic words of endearment spoken softly. This day seems to open floodgates as the ideal opportunity to express unspoken thoughts and often to proposals of marriage.

Romantic Weekend Breaks

Did you know that Valentines Day is the second most celebrated day, Christmas being the first. It is a day that is celebrated throughout the globe. A gift on Valentines Day is pure demonstration of ones affection. It is recorded back to the seventeenth century where hand written love notes were exchanged. This was replaced in the eighteenth century by simple greeting cards being exchanged.

In the present day Valentines Day is marked for dating and extensive gift giving customs. The size of the card, gift or the act undertaken to demonstrate the amount of ones affection to their partner has become limitless! The whole environment wears a festive look literally! Shops and stores are filled with varieties of clothing and underwear adorned with hearts and cuties, all in a rich red colour.

The most traditional and popular way to demonstrate your love and affection is to send a single red rose. More often than not a poem is included as a note and there will be no name attached as the recipient should know from whom it has been sent, not always the case but this then enters into the fun element of the day.

proposals of marriage

Valentines Day is also the most popular day when proposals of marriage are made. Again here strikes the element of not only surprise but also romantic destinations are highly sought and are very much in demand, such as authentic Chateaus in France, Grand Manor Houses in Denmark or guaranteed warm climates at this time of the year such as Tenerife. Many couples which may have been parted find themselves uniting on this day, the distance one may have to travel to be with ones loved one is irrelevant.

It is the perfect date choice not only to demonstrate the depth of your love to your cherished one, and to then ask to spend the rest of your lives together.

Recently, it is also becoming a frequent fashion to begin demonstrating ones love a few days prior to Valentines Day, this is a fairly new idea and appears to be more in line with those intending to pop the question! It begins with perhaps a box of chocolates a day or so before. This would be followed by a bouquet and a love note, all leading to that one big surprise of a trip away to a Romantic Venue and the end gift being a red envelope enclosing details of that romantic venue for two.

Castle Visit for a weekend

I was sitting here, thinking what it would be like to be King of a Castle for a day, well Queen actually, but somehow King just seems to sound better. Having visited a Castle in the Lorraine region of France, it was called Hâttonchatel Château. Magnificent Castle

Castle stay

I so wished that the visit could have been a stay, oh why didn’t I stay. I roamed around the gardens in complete bewilderment. I stood back under a large oak tree which serviced my needs as shade to admire this magnificent castle in all its entirety and original glory. mystic valley

I could see Lorraine region of France, the turrets stretching towards the bright blue sky and I imagined a damsel inside awaiting a young handsome knight to come and set her free. I approached such a grand entrance, this door for sure must have been made for giants! As I stepped inside, and in my minds eye, were pictures, and oh if only these old walls could talk, what tales would they tell about this fairyland castle of which I had a become a small part of, albeit on borrowed time. I was stepping back in time, allowing myself to dream. My thoughts were broken by the faint sound of crackling, the fire was lit in the grand hall, it was so inviting. I sat by it´s side and made images in it´s flames, again wondering what adventures this great place had seen and heard.

Beautiful Castle accommodation

I found myself touching the stones as I was lead up the castle turret, its winding staircase, so authentic, I was inside a dream. I walked into one of the now suites, Bridal Suite

how exquisite it all was, originality kept and restored with that touch of being brought into this Millennium, the spaciousness, a kind of which I hadn’t seen, the décor sumptuous and space leads me to more space, through a connecting door, still in the upper part of the castle in, this astonishing bedroom has its own en suite bathroom and sitting room. I sat in a chair and looked out over of the breathtaking valley below, I´m speechless, again my imagination wanders.

I have to return, I have to stay, I have to live out my dream and be King of a Castle for a day.
