Love,

for most of us, is a very personal concept. We believe that although what we feel is universal, it is at the same time customized specifically for us and towards the person that our love is aimed at. The truth is that the concept of love itself is relatively new — at least when looking at it as a part of human culture.

The first to give romantic love a name were the Greeks, calling it “Eros.” However, romantic love didn’t actually become a popular concept until the medieval ages. During this period of roughly 1,000 years, the concept of romantic love formulated and spread through European culture, but nevertheless was not yet considered to be necessary for marriage; only during the Victorian period did romantic love become a prerequisite for marrying someone.
Love is a wonderful thing :-)
So if not for love, for what reason did people marry? Originally, marriages were not by choice, but rather by arrangement or by capture. When men raided other villages, farms or castles, they would capture the women and take them as brides. Even more common were marriages formed in order to strengthen business relationships or to create political alliances.

Dowries were also strong motivators, but until the 5th century, the idea of loving someone and marrying them for this sole purpose was unheard of. Romantic love, which fully blossomed during the Victorian Era during the 19th century, has basically remained an important concept in western culture today. We have even gone a step further – the bride and groom want a destination wedding such as a romantic beach weddings in Tenerife, Spain.

The relationship between a man and woman

Nevertheless, the concept of the relationship between a man and woman has changed. Overlooking the whole gay marriage movement, the concept of marriage itself has begun to change. Nowadays many believe marriage to be a rather archaic concept, one that no longer fills a cultural void.

Tradition has in the past played a significant role in cultures all over the world. While in many parts of the world, tradition remains the main guiding light, in the most developed countries the importance of tradition has dwindled and the tradition of marriage, specifically, has begun to transform.

Peoples’ ideals have shifted and a culture that was once focused on family and togetherness now revolves around the concept of independence. The priority of human beings for centuries has been to begin a family — to procreate. That, I believe, is no longer the case — generally.

Are we focusing on ourselves

Most people — especially those living in an urban setting — have shifted their focus from the family ideal to a more egocentric way of Harmoni and lovethinking and of living. While during the Victorian Era, many found the idea of finding a lover and starting a family to care for as their sole purpose in life, many of today’s youth shudder at the idea.

If we look at this closely, we will notice a pattern: our culture is slowly cycling back to the days prior to the Medieval period; we are resorting back to the days when our focus was on ourselves. The main difference is that during those days of yonder, marriage between a man and woman brought with it many monetary and/or political gains. Today, marrying to get ahead in life is rare.

Because our culture focuses so much on independence and on self-improvement, many people prefer to make their fortune themselves rather than marry into it. Not to mention that the richest of the rich tend to carry a prenup in their back pocket, just in case.

Will you marry for happiness

If you aren’t going to marry for profit, then you will marry for happiness. This, however, brings another problem. The current dominant vRomantic Chateau wedding at Hattonchatel Chateau in Franceiew on marriage is that it leads to tension within the relationship, leading to a separation and much unhappiness. But we are often getting married again after a divorce – we are looking for happiness!

We love our freedom and tying the knot leaves us feeling tied down. If we look at the divorce rate, we will notice that this idea is not so farfetched. I honestly believe that marriage is becoming such a deterrent because people are becoming more and more afraid of divorce.

Divorce causes pain, misery, monetary loss and is seen as a significant setback to living a happy life. So, we are beginning to avoid the possibility of divorce by avoiding marriage altogether. This is not to say that we are boycotting relationships. We do and always will date — what passes for dating these days is rather sad, but I will try to refrain from going off on this tangent.

Romantic and exclusive Gazebo weddings in Tenerife, Spain

The main problem that I see with the way most of us are living our lives these days is that while we cherish our independence and prefer to focus on bettering ourselves as people, we have been exposed to romantic love and romantic places such as Clansani Venues in Tenerife where many wedding couples has booked their romantic wedding ceremony or tend to go for a romantic honeymoon. For all of you that have experienced that magic of falling in love, you will surely agree that there is no other feeling like it in the world.

Does our culture still focuses on romantic love

Our culture still focuses on romantic love and for this reason it is embedded in our minds. I don’t believe this is a bad thing — we ought to focus on love. Just imagine how it would be to declare your love and propose to your loved one in one of the beautiful wedding castles in France such as Hattonchâtel Château. The only issue is that many people get lost in their independence. They live alone for so long, that the idea of marriage and finding love seems to become an impossibility. These people tend to resort to saying: “marriage just isn’t for me.”

There isn’t a single thing about marriage itself that ought to deter anyone from getting married. All it is is a piece of paper and a promise. Those who resort to such line of thought rather not admit to themselves that they have lived alone for so long that they believe themselves to have become incapable of sharing their lives with another. Whether or not this is true, I cannot say for sure since I am not in this situation.

The wedding picture from FranceDo you avoid love

The one thing I can say is that love ought to remain cherished because it is the one concept in this world that remains untainted. As of now, our culture has resorted back to the days of pillaging — only that after we pick up a woman and use her, we don’t marry her; we send her on her way. Love can be a scary thing — or rather the loss of it can be.

Living in fear is no way to live. The concept of marriage fading doesn’t bother me as much as people avoiding love for the fear of being hurt or having to break a promise. You need a bit of pain and suffering in your life in order to experience joy and happiness.

Valentines Day – Legend, Myth or Truth

In England and France during the Middle Ages it was commonly believed to be the beginning of birds’ mating season on February 14th thus, the idea was borne that this should be the selected date whereby one could express love and romance to their partner. Although a further theory is that, dating back to the Roman era and the ancient fertility festival, known as the Feast of Lupercalia, also gave birth to this idea. The festival took place at the beginning of spring and was held to honor the Roman God of fertility. However, the most common belief of the legend for the Valentines celebration derives from a legendary priest. He was the Patron Saint of this legend and during the third century in Rome he performed secret marriages for young couples. Marriage was at this time outlawed by the Emperor who wanted to make all men into better soldiers. The priest was seized by this cruel and unforgiving Emperor, Claudius II, and was sentenced to death. Thus St. Valentine became immortal in the hearts of all young lovers and 14th February became the day to pay tribute to this great sacrifice of Saint Valentine.

Valentines Day – a day of celebration

For centuries this celebrated date has now become a unique day dedicated to the unconditional love between two mortals. The whole day is dedicated to those whom have had their hearts pierced by cupids arrow and express and indulge their undying love and affection from the most simplest form to the most extravagant lavish gifts. The need to shower ones partner with love on this day and fulfil the experience of demonstrating the extent of feeling is done with the sending of cards, gifts of love and especially red roses. It is a day of togetherness. A day of devoting time your loved one, candlelit dinners and unbroken dreamy gazes into each other eyes with romantic words of endearment spoken softly. This day seems to open floodgates as the ideal opportunity to express unspoken thoughts and often to proposals of marriage.

Romantic Weekend Breaks

Did you know that Valentines Day is the second most celebrated day, Christmas being the first. It is a day that is celebrated throughout the globe. A gift on Valentines Day is pure demonstration of ones affection. It is recorded back to the seventeenth century where hand written love notes were exchanged. This was replaced in the eighteenth century by simple greeting cards being exchanged.

In the present day Valentines Day is marked for dating and extensive gift giving customs. The size of the card, gift or the act undertaken to demonstrate the amount of ones affection to their partner has become limitless! The whole environment wears a festive look literally! Shops and stores are filled with varieties of clothing and underwear adorned with hearts and cuties, all in a rich red colour.

The most traditional and popular way to demonstrate your love and affection is to send a single red rose. More often than not a poem is included as a note and there will be no name attached as the recipient should know from whom it has been sent, not always the case but this then enters into the fun element of the day.

proposals of marriage

Valentines Day is also the most popular day when proposals of marriage are made. Again here strikes the element of not only surprise but also romantic destinations are highly sought and are very much in demand, such as authentic Chateaus in France, Grand Manor Houses in Denmark or guaranteed warm climates at this time of the year such as Tenerife. Many couples which may have been parted find themselves uniting on this day, the distance one may have to travel to be with ones loved one is irrelevant.

It is the perfect date choice not only to demonstrate the depth of your love to your cherished one, and to then ask to spend the rest of your lives together.

Recently, it is also becoming a frequent fashion to begin demonstrating ones love a few days prior to Valentines Day, this is a fairly new idea and appears to be more in line with those intending to pop the question! It begins with perhaps a box of chocolates a day or so before. This would be followed by a bouquet and a love note, all leading to that one big surprise of a trip away to a Romantic Venue and the end gift being a red envelope enclosing details of that romantic venue for two.

Quote:

“At the touch of love, everyone becomes a poet.

My big fat Greek wedding?

Don’t think so try a bit of this and get yourself to Tenerife…………

Stunning gazebo wedding in Tenerife, The Canary Islands, Spain

wedding ceremony abroad

I think, it´s an unknown fact that a wedding in paradise can exist without travelling for days on end and without incurring a huge hole in ones pocket!

Ever been invited to a wedding knowing that you could only dream about attending? Sadly you decline because of cost, distance and time. Recently I received a wedding invitation to attend a wedding blessing in Tenerife.

The initial wedding ceremony took place at the local registry office. Sound plain and simple? The best was yet to come! Bags packed and ready, the mini bus waiting, off to the airport and on our way to sunny Tenerife. Leaving behind the freezing cold, drizzling drab weather.

Church ceremony, wedding ceremony

warm and friendly welcome at the hotel

We checked into the most quaint resort, part of the The Ritz Resorts group, situated in Amarilla Golf in the South of Tenerife. People say you can´t change a first impression, here, you really wouldn´t want to.  We were greeted with a warm and friendly welcome and an efficiency second to none by the Tenerife hosts and the wedding planner at this charming Canarian resort.

All the wedding party had been accommodated on site, 50 in total. The wedding accommodation in Tenerife was surprisingly cheap and yet consisted of self catering apartments, the standard of which was incredible. The resort staff in Tenerife can´t do enough for you and cater for your every need. Totally uninterrupted paradise.

The Ritz Resort hosts with their invaluable advice and experience had arranged and carried out every wish, instruction and minor wedding detail as instructed by the bride and groom.

The wedding ceremony

The local Priest in Tenerife, is of Irish origin, so no language barriers. He carried out the wedding ceremony by the pool and the whole ambiance was that of a fairytale wedding. The bridesmaids with their fresh flower bouquets. Soft music that floated on the Atlantic breeze, tall palm trees swaying gently and in the not too far distance, the Atlantic Ocean. There is something so special about this wedding abroad.

Canarian Food

What a sight for sore eyes! Canarian potatoes, platters filled with mixtures of roast meats and poultry, whole suckling pigs, poached salmons and a huge king prawn fountain. All being washed down with fine Spanish wines and champagne. The wedding cake seemed to stand in its own kingdom almost as though you were expected to pay homage to it! 8 tiers in all, it swirled around like steps leading up to a turret in a castle, sheer decadence. Made at the local Tenerife bakery, another small detail taken care of by the Tenerife wedding planner with a huge, “knock on effect”.

Beautiful wedding venue in Tenerife

To get married in Tenerife is a lifetime experience

When someone or something touches you, and it has an everlasting effect on you, you have to let people know, spread the word. My advise is, if you ever get the chance to attend a wedding at this Ritz Resort in Tenerife, or certainly, if you are thinking of getting married abroad, having a ceremony of a wedding blessing, or renewal of your wedding vows abroad, don´t hesitate to get in contact with these proffessional wedding advisors who truelly are helpful and friendly people who make your wedding dreams a reality, cater for all your wedding needs and will ensure that you will have that truelly unforgetable once in a lifetime experience.

We all have stories to tell and here’s one of mine, dedicated to both of my sisters,  I Love  you Both

Pleased to meet you I am Larly the youngest of three sisters, the middle one is Charley and the eldest is Shelly. My two sisters got married within 3 months of each other and this is how it all went;

First Wedding

Shelley and Jerry
Shelly, the eldest made her wedding announcement first and decides to get married in the UK.  The wedding venue is in a hotel which is close by. I don’t know why, but   she took all the stress upon herself and became her own wedding planner, organiser and decision maker from start to finish and believe you me, it got very stressful at times! Her first big decision was pink!   Basically anywhere she could add a touch of pink got splashed! It all actually came together really well and lucked quite delicious! I hope you’re now getting some sort of imaginary picture. She had an exquisite long white wedding gown, the edging of which matched her wedding veil which purely by coincidence was trimmed in pink glittery bits and sequins, it was stunning! I have to skip over ever major and minor details and highlight the main wedding event.

On her Big Day……wedding day!

Everyone was suited and booted, the hairdresser came and did wonders with our hair and make up. The wedding bouquets were delivered with the relative button holes and corsages. The clock was ticking and the wedding cars arrived, she had 2 white Rolls Royce trimmed with pink ribbon, pink and white carnations hung delicately from the door handles and a small flower arrangement had been placed in the rear window. It was so exiting, all the neighbours and other on lookers had gathered by the roadside for a glimpse of the bride and wedding party.

La Caleta church wedding

Church wedding.

We were greeted by the vicar, he had a quite word with my sister, I think he was assuring her that all was well and calming any last minute wedding nerves. As we walked down the aisle, thoughts of tripping over or doing something wrong crept into my mind, I concentrated on where I was going as every eye in the church was watching us. I genuinely fought back tears as they took their wedding vows, it was very emotional.

All too soon or so it seamed the photographs had been taken and we were at the hotel. We gathered in the main bar of the hotel and were served with buck fizz. It suddenly dawned on me there were many more people here or had my eyes deceived me in the church, I obviously didn’t know everyone that Shelly and Jerry had invited, then, I saw them, another wedding couple!
How could this be I thought, what a nightmare and how do you separate guests, I could see my sister had just realised too and her and Jerry looked totally bewildered,  just then a loud voice came over the intercom system asking all the wedding guests from our wedding party to go to the banqueting hall number 2! To be honest I felt like I was in a farm, you know like separating cattle, anyway we eventually found our way.
I could hear the undercurrent discussion of what had just taken place and thank goodness it seemed to be shortly forgotten once the food came. The menu they chose was acceptably nice, the main course was a little on the cold side and I began to think about the other wedding and wondered if this was the reason. The speeches went well and daytime just seemed to drift into the evening, which brought even more guests to the wedding.
This was not much fun to begin with as the wedding next door had their evening guests arriving too and everyone seemed to be mingling between the two banqueting halls until they saw a familiar face.  I decided to post myself at the door and ask arriving guests if they were attending our wedding or not, after an hour or so I gave up and decided to go and unwind and enjoy the party which went on until around 1 a.m.

Its not really funny although we laugh about it now as we had to rescue Grandpa and Uncle Ron from the wedding next door, poor things got lost on the way back from the loo, it was some time before we discovered them missing but one knew where to find them, I thought they may have realised when they were charged for drinks next door as Shelley and Jerry had arranged a free bar. Perhaps they went in search of some young hot stuff!!

Some of the guests had made reservations at the hotel so as not to worry about drinking and driving, good idea! As for the rest of us we waited in a long queue for a taxi, the nightclubs were finishing too so we waited and waited…..

I tell you it was a memorable wedding day!

Second Wedding in a Castle

A place Where Dreams are Made

A place Where Dreams are Made

Charley & Dave
Charley didn’t wait too long and made her announcement. Quite a different scenario from Shelly, Charley’s only gone and got herself a castle wedding in France and a wedding organiser!

She really did her homework. I would have no idea how to get married in France. For instance, did you know, according to French law you have to be resident in France for 31 days in order to get married there, I didn’t but don’t be put off, read on! Charley and Dave got married in the registry office in our village, then, they had The Wedding Blessing!

We had a short flight from the UK into Luxembourg airport. It took us a little over an hour, firstly by motorway then country roads to reach our destination. As we approached the castle, our arrival was expected and the gates where already open.  WOW there it stood in all its glory, this magnificent historical castle. Honestly I stood there with my mouth open looking down at the breath taking valleys adorned by the beautiful countryside. This was to be our family home for the next five days.

My sisters beautiful Castle wedding

We were escorted to our rooms, I couldn’t wait. This was great! Time to explore, relax, be waited on and have a few tasters of some fine French Wines with no worries about driving ahhhh!

The wedding party in total was small, immediate family and a few close friends who had paid for their airfares and also accommodation, clever idea and very cost effective! Charley, Dave and the wedding organiser had co-ordinated everything, it was all planned to a faultless perfection.

Her beautiful Castle wedding day

On the morning of the wedding, we gathered in the great hall of the stunning castle, it wasn’t cold but there was a big fire burning in the fireplace. We had a buffet type continental breakfast, which consisted of an assortment of mouth watering delights. It was time to get ready. The wedding organiser had arranged a French hairdresser to arrange our hair. She was really sweet and did five hair do´s in no time at all. I helped Charley with her dress and veil, the suite she had was huge, a bed to die for and her own private sitting room which formed part of the tower with views over the Seine Valley and the most beautiful bathroom. I thought my suite was good but the Bridal Suite was something else, I was truly amazed. The Bridal Suite was in the tower of the Castle and had its own bathroom and lounge or sitting room.

I watched Charley come down the spiral staircase of the tower, a princess in her castle. We took our places behind her and went out of the castle and into the grounds. Every head turned to watch and a small band played here comes the bride. The wedding blessing was beautiful. Nothing about this ceremony was rushed or misunderstood. We threw lots of confetti adding even more colour to this wonderland setting.

Lovely wedding pictures

Lots of wedding pictures were taken and we were served champagne and canopies. There was no conception of time and one thing just flowed into another. We had a fabulous sit down meal within the castle, six courses, no rush, no fuss and no intruders! What a feeling of total, undisturbed relaxation. No fear of losing Grandpa and Uncle Ron this time! Later we had plenty to drink and danced the night away until we were all fit to drop!

It was great, we got up the following day and had a leisurely brunch, I could really get used to this! We spent the day in the French castle and its grounds. What a surprise, the following day, Charley and Dave had arranged for us to go ballooning, if you have never had this experience Wow, do it!! With time running out, we just had to fit in visits to Metz which apparently they call the City of Light and then to Verdun to see where the great battle of Verdun took place in the first World War.

So there you have it, two weddings. Independently different but both wonderful. Where should I have my wedding, when someone asks me I will tell you, watch this space!!

Hotel

Having your wedding in a Hotel is a great choice. Wedding receptions create wonderful memories that you and your guests will remember forever. Hotels provide full service and are ready to accommodate to your every wish and whim. A Hotel wedding reception is an excellent provision and great venue for those out of town guests too. A Hotel venue will open to a world of pure indulgence and total relaxation, one for those who appreciate the finer qualities in life. Make Sure you enquire, how many and what type of other functions maybe being held on the date you have selected, if you don’t ask I doubt the hotel would tell you, perhaps the local rugby teams end of season dinner, children’s birthday party, pensioners get together, personally I have no objections, however you may, Just Ask!!

Marquee

Choosing a marquee as your wedding venue is the opening to your own flexibility of size, features and design. A marquee enables you to “stamp” your own individuality on what is possibly the most personal day of you life. A venue where you get to paint your own desired picture as you are not dominated by a fixed venues fittings, colour schemes, schedules or menus. When one finds comfort at home, a marquee seems to be the obvious wedding venue right in your own garden. The marquee is an easy transitional structure from daytime elegance to one of an evening haven retreat. Beware! On the downside of Marquees, no one can guarantee the weather, you may have been lucky enough to have been able to view an erected marquee and I am sure every assurance relating to agility and strength will have been given, what happens should the unthinkable heavens open and gale force winds begin to blow. One certainly hopes not. How many hours and at what cost will it be to repair after 100 pairs of size nines have stomped through your years of precious gardening and landscaping. Think carefully about toilet issues!

Exclusivity

The exclusive venue hits the nail on the head. This is the venue of venues! Your choice is one of uninterrupted bliss and attention to detail which no other venue can offer. This venue aims at those looking for an unlimited duration of intimate escapism. An unwarranted sense of selfish fulfilment with a unique opportunity to share the day only with ones guests. Consider venues such as a castle abroad or private resort in the sun that will provide lavish locations and will be accustomed to providing solely for the needs of their guests at hand.

Self Catering

A self catering venue is really only relative to small weddings. Outside caterers and waiting staff may well need to be sourced. Venues such as a B&B, local public houses or halls may be of interest allowing you to arrange a less informal celebration. However, this could mean that you have all the locals being present so your wedding day may well turn into open day! I can’t envisage that this would be neither stress free nor cost effective unless perhaps your thoughts include all your guests contributing and bringing a little bit of something with them for your wedding reception. That may well work.

Unusual Venues

Outside of the “approved” venues, church or registry office, there is an apparent growth in civil wedding venues taking place in somewhat strikingly unusual places, often changing contemporary traditions to those of extreme themes, ranging from mountain top to under the deep blue sea! WAIT! Do you think ahead or live for the moment? Weddings are a once in a lifetime experience, will your choice be something you wont want to share later with the grandchildren, one where you are too embarrassed to get out the photo album??

Restaurant

A restaurant venue is a good way to please your guests with a selection of your already tried and tested menu choices probably descending from your own past experiences. The choice of a restaurant will provide an atmospheric venue however, although culinary choices can be made, the palate of colours and interior design are already staged. It is worthwhile remembering, that during your previous visits to the restaurant, you were not part of a large group and for this reason one hopes that the restaurateur can maintain the service and quality to which you have been accustomed.  The obvious question to the host is, whether or not you have the restaurant venue exclusively as the intrusion of paying guests might somewhat upset your day.
